This year the Big South 5K will take place on Saturday, October 20th at 8:00am. The race will start and finish in Blakeney Shopping Center located at the corner of Rea Road and Ardrey Kell Road. The first half of the scenic and shady certified course will consist of rolling hills while the second half is primarily downhill and flat. (Downhill finish. One of the fastest 5K courses in the South!) Participants will be treated to food, beverages, music and giveaways at the conclusion of the race. Finally, the 6th Annual Blakeney Shopping Center Boo! Bash will start at 10:00am following the race.
The Big South 5K Road Race was created in 2009 to serve as a fundraiser for middle school athletic programs in Mecklenburg and Union Counties, as well as develop a new scholarship opportunity for Big South Conference student-athletes at member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
